A proven media and marketing executive, Greg Schumann joined Markstein as a Vice President in 2017 and was appointed Chief Strategy Officer in October 2019.
Greg specializes in strategic planning, crisis management, multi-media consulting and brand positioning. In his role as Chief Strategy Officer, Greg oversees the Markstein Account Management Team and overall business development efforts, helps shape the strategic positioning of the agency, and serves on the executive leadership team. During Greg’s time at Markstein, the agency has enjoyed two consecutive years of record revenues.
Before joining Markstein, Greg enjoyed a twenty-plus year career in advertising and media, where he operated in several executive capacities with Time Inc., ascending to Group President of Time Inc. Sales & Marketing. Prior to the corporate sales and marketing positions, Greg oversaw several lifestyle brands, including Southern Living, where he led brand extension initiatives, digital expansion efforts and integrated sales strategies that fueled significant revenue growth and led to the brand earning a number of industry recognitions over a three year period.
In addition to his tenure at Time Inc., Greg operated a multi-national media enterprise, operated in the business-to-business media space, and oversaw numerous trade show, conference and exhibition entities. Additionally, Greg has been a part of multiple media mergers & acquisitions and possesses a strong breadth of experience in positioning businesses for sale and structuring integration strategies post-sale.
Originally from Chicago, Greg now lives in Birmingham with his two daughters, Katie (17) and Abi (15). Greg holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, currently serves on the advisory board and guest lectures at UAB’s Department of Marketing, Industrial Distribution and Economics, serves as an advisor to Samford University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and is a board member for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.
