Taylor Owens joined Southern Company in 2008 as a Utility person in the Fuels Dept. at Plant Crist. Two months into that role he was promoted to Plant Operator supporting the Operations Dept. In this role he supported the day to day operations of the plant including monitoring and operating the unit boilers, turbines and environmental equipment. He was also involved in leading and coordinating multiple Unit outages. He remained in that position until spring 2014 when he moved to Plant Miller as an Operations Specialist SR. In this role, he supported the plant engineer operations training program, new operations employee training program, operations procedure management, Team Leader Substitution and the Clearance and Tag Out procedure. During Taylor’s time at Miller he was asked to lead a key part in the Southern Company Lock-Out Tag-Out implementation across our Generation fleet and Southern Gas fleet by leading the data development for TKPro which is used to administer our Safety permits. Taylor moved into a Safety & Health Coordinator Sr. role in Spring of 2018. In that role, he supported TKPro and Lock-Out Tag-Out for Southern Company and worked directly with the developers to keep the software up to date with current standards as well as ensure the LOTO Procedure was up to date with OSHA. Currently Taylor is serving in the Continuous Improvement & Learning department as a CI&L Supervisor. In this role he oversees the Safety & Health permitting software SafeTK, manages our Corrective Action Programs and leads many other fleet wide implementation projects in Operations. Prior to joining Southern Company, he worked for Roar Industries as a machinist/welder in the MRO dept. which was responsible for building jet engine cowls and pylons for Boeing and Airbus.
Taylor attended the Locklin Technical School where he received his Certificate in Industrial Welding.
Taylor enjoys family activities and serving at his church, First Baptist Church of Pelham. He spends much of his time away from work with his family and International Missions
Taylor currently lives in Helena, AL. Taylor and his wife, Melissa, have 3 daughters, Anna, Elizabeth and Charlie.
