Charles joined Southern Company in June 2008 as a civil field specialist to support the environmental retrofit projects at Plant Crist and Plant Daniel. He currently supports facilities across the Southern Company footprint with survey-related services. Charles graduated from Samford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. Charles is also a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi. Charles is an FAA Private Pilot and helped launch the Civil Field Service Aerial Drone program in 2014. In 2016 Charles received the Part 107 FAA Unmanned Aerial Vehicle certification. Charles continues to provide aerial drone services for projects across the system and renewable energy projects in the South and Midwest. Prior to joining Southern Company, he spent the first 12 years of his career with Volkert & Associates Inc. where he served as surveying crew chief and manager over heavy transportation projects in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
