Mark Smith is Principal Engineer in Southern Company Services TP&S Transmission Line Standards. He has worked at Southern Company for 40 years and is currently the Lead Product Engineer for overhead conductors and accessories and transmission underground cable systems for Southern Company Transmission Line Standards. The last 24 years he has held various engineering positions in Transmission Line Design and Line Standards. Mark has been involved with underground transmission line engineering and underground transmission cable system maintenance support at Southern Company since 2002. He is past chair of Association of Edison Illuminating Committee-Cable Engineering Committee (AEIC-CEC) and continues to be an active member. Mark is a senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and IEEE-Insulated Conductor Committee (IEEE-ICC). He also represents Southern Company on EPRI’s Program 36: Underground Transmission Task Force.
Mark is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Georgia and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Georgia.
