Scott Teel is senior vice president of Commercial Operations for Southern Company. In this role he is responsible for the procurement and management of fuel for the electric generating fleet, forecasting load and optimizing the commitment and dispatch of generating resources. He also leads power and natural gas trading, as well as the billing, settlement and reporting of wholesale transactions.

Prior to his current role, Teel served as the chief financial officer for former subsidiary Gulf Power from 2010 to 2015. In that position, he was responsible for financial planning and accounting, as well as pricing and forecasting. Teel joined Southern Company in 1999 with responsibility for natural gas trading and operations before progressing to roles of increasing responsibility across the system’s power generation and financial organizations in Birmingham, Atlanta and Pensacola, Florida.

Before joining Southern Company, Teel held positions at Sonat and Ernst & Young. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Alabama in 1992.
