Misty Walker currently serves in the System Planning Organization as Alabama Power’s Resource Planning Director. In this role, she is responsible for coordination, development, and evolution of Alabama’s capacity and renewable generation strategy.
Walker joined Southern Company in 2003 as an engineer in Alabama Power Company’s power delivery organization. She then progressed through various roles within APC’s Engineer-in-Training program, gaining valuable experience in transmission line design, control center operations, multi-division transmission system maintenance, project coordination, and transmission line construction. Misty moved into leadership in 2011, gaining responsibility for Southern Company Transmission’s operational metrics tracking and reporting. She then transitioned into Alabama Power Company’s Transmission Maintenance organization, where she was responsible for reliability of all transmission line and substation assets in East Alabama. In 2014, Walker advanced to state-wide leadership of substation construction teams, where she guided worker safety, job prioritization and scheduling, as well as capital budget alignment. She then served as Transmission Area Manager where she led engineering and field transmission lines and substations teams across north Alabama.
In 2019, Misty accepted a newly created state-wide Distribution Control Center (DCC) Manager role, with responsibility for unifying 5 existing control centers so that critical resources could be leveraged to benefit customers regardless of geographic location. With key milestones met in DCC, Misty transitioned to APC’s System Operations Manager role in 2021, where she managed safe and reliable operation of APC’s transmission system and served on APC’s Leadership Development Council. Walker then served Southern Company as Assistant to the Executive Vice President of Southern Company Operations, and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Company Services. In this role, she led system-wide operations initiatives and coordinated communications and content for the management council within Operations as well as Southern Company’s Board of Directors.
Misty has served as a mentor in multiple Southern Company leadership programs, and actively participates in various community outreach efforts through her church. She earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Alabama, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a registered professional engineer in the state of Alabama. Misty and her husband Jarrod have 2 daughters and currently live in Gadsden, Alabama.
