Gary Kerr joined Southern Company in 2006 as an Engineer in SCS System Planning supporting analysis around environmental strategy decisions for the regulated operating companies. During his time in System Planning he also helped analyze impacts to the company from environmental legislation and helped the operating companies make decisions around the retirement and replacement of generating assets. In 2009, Gary joined Southern Power as part of the Market Analysis & Structuring group in SPC Finance. During his time at SPC, Gary has supported a variety of different areas within SPC Finance including the development of SPC’s long term financial planning projections, Business Development efforts both in the core and in new markets, acquisition of new generating assets and the development of SPC internal market price forecast. Gary previously managed the Financial Structuring team in SPC Finance. In this role Gary led a team that is responsible for the financial analysis related to new business opportunities and third-party tax equity negotiations before moving into his current role as the Vice President of Analysis & Structuring. Prior to joining Southern Company, Gary worked for Mercedes-Benz US for 3 years.
Gary attended Tennessee Technological University where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also has received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama.
Originally from Jackson, TN, Gary has lived in Alabama for the past 17 years. Gary and his wife Katie have three children, Lilly (9), Cooper (7) and Sam (4).
