Michael Sznajderman, APR, manages content strategy for Alabama Power Company. He works with others across the company to help tell the good stories of Alabama Power and the Alabama Power Foundation through the company’s multiple platforms. He also works with the company’s media team to help drive good stories to media partners.
In addition to his content-related responsibilities, he writes for and helps edit the company’s internal and external publications and digital content and helps support the communication needs of company leaders and organizations.
Prior to his current role, Michael served as manager for Media Relations where his responsibilities ranged from external and crisis communications to public and stakeholder outreach as a company spokesperson on issues involving or affecting Alabama Power.
Before joining Alabama Power, Michael spent 18 years as a newspaper reporter and editor. He is a former editorial writer, political columnist and state capital bureau chief for the Birmingham News and a former national political correspondent for the Tampa Tribune in Washington, D.C. He also worked for newspapers in New Jersey, New York and Tokyo, Japan.
Michael is the recipient of several journalism and writing awards, including the Robin F. Goldstein Prize for Regional Reporting from the National Press Club. His free-lance articles have appeared in American Journalism Review, the Christian Science Monitor, Alabama Heritage magazine, the London Jewish Chronicle, Bham Now, the online public relations magazine Platform and other publications. He is also a contributor to the online Encyclopedia of Alabama.
Michael’s recent volunteer activities include working with Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, the Southern Environmental Center and United Way of Central Alabama. He is a former president of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Alabama Chapter.
He has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Fordham University in New York City and a master’s degree in communication management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his professional accreditation in public relations (APR) in 2011.
Michael is happily married to Elaine Witt, a public relations and development professional and former newspaper columnist at the Birmingham Post-Herald. He has two grown children.
