Roger Ely is a Georgia Power Transmission Reliability Engineer at Macon TMC supporting the Substation Maintenance Organization. Roger joined the company in 1984 as a co-op student at Auburn University earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and PE license in the State of Georgia in 1994. During Roger’s 36 years at Georgia Power, he has worked as a Transmission P&C Test Engineer, Distribution Engineering Supervisor, Distribution Reliability Engineer, Transmission, Reliability Engineer – Substation Maintenance and a UAV Pilot.

Roger earned his Part 107 Certification in 2019 and leverages UAS in support of Transmission Line and Substation. This technology has allowed the company to find system issues after trouble on transmission lines including inspections in substations, on transmission lines in support of upcoming projects for repairs or equipment replacement, mapping construction progress in substations and documenting large projects for the TMC.

Roger enjoys the outdoors, spending time with family and playing music.
