About

Alabama Power’s Power of Leadership event celebrates Black History Month by convening leaders in business, government, and education, as well as providing thought leadership on moving Alabama communities forward.

This year’s installment – which marks our 10th consecutive year – will broadcast virtually on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. (CT).

The program will feature a keynote Q&A with author and former NFL player Emmanuel Acho, a spotlight on nonprofit partners fighting for racial equity in Alabama, and a panel discussion showcasing several prominent HBCU presidents. WSFA-12 anchor and HBCU alumna Valorie Lawson will serve as moderator throughout the virtual broadcast.

Broadcast links will be sent to registered attendees prior to the event.

After earning his undergraduate degree in sports management in 2012, Emmanuel Acho was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. He was then traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, where he spent the majority of his career. While in the NFL, Acho spent off-seasons back on campus at the University of Texas, to earn his master’s degree in Sports Psychology.

In 2016 Acho left the football field, but he didn’t leave the game. He put down the ball and picked up the microphone to begin his broadcasting career. In 2018 Acho was promoted within ESPN, where he served as the youngest national football analyst, and was named a 2018 Forbes Under 30 Selection. In 2017, he and his family’s nonprofit organization, Living Hope Christian Ministries, raised enough money to build a hospital in rural Nigeria.
